This magnificent example of 18th century classical Ottoman calligraphy is a muraqqa of Hadith written by Mehmed Râsim Efendi, the rais ul-hattatin, shaykh of calligraphers of his day.
It contains eight illuminated panels, all in the form of a kitaa, with one line of Thuluth/Sulus calligraphy and 8 lines of Naskh/Nesih script in the middle. All panels are illuminated in the koltuk indentations, and bordered with gold-flecked colored papers.
